Hi all, having inherited a Honda 70 that is currently SORN'd at the moment, so obviously has no tax or MOT, how would one be expected to get into an MOT station to get the certificate to tax it?

Don't quote me but I think as long as it is insured you should be able to ride it as long as you have an appointment with the testing station and the documents filled out ready to send off to DVLA for tax and de-sorning or whatever they call it.. Much like the situation when an MOT ran out and you are a day or 2 late.

On second thoughts you may have to get it de-sorned first.

Could be entirely wrong though so I'll shut up now.

I did think I'd have to de sorn it or whatever its called but thought I'd have to buy tax to do that and can't do that without an MOT. I wasn't sure if I'd have to hire a van to take it to the garage.

I've just been checking the DVLA site and it looks to me like vehicle is either taxed or SORNed so de SORNing would in effect be taxing. So I think my first thoughts apply, give them a ring on Monday to double check. After all if it was something like a Winnibago RV or a retired Centurion tank it would be a little difficult to carry it to the MOT shop.

As long as the Vehicle is insured as Indicated by GG, and the MOT is prebooked you can drive to and return from the MOT station.
You do though have to tax the car to cover the date of that journey whether passed or not.
Its all linked now so they do know.
You MUST prebook the MOT though and it is meant to be the closest station.

Thanks guys, I did wonder how one would be supposed to take a retired Aveling barford for MOT in a similar situation.

So basically, I get it insured, ride it to prebooked MOT appointment even though untaxed, get mot pass hopefully, go to post office get tax, jobs a goodun? Would taxing it automatically cancel the SORN?

Now all I need to do is pass my CBT this coming Saturday. :lol:
