Parking Sensor Quandary
Why are things never straightforward?
After buying my 75 (mk2), I soon realised that there was no 'lights left on' chime, and also that there was no chime from the seat memory. I became aware that the parking sensors also used the same sounder in the IPK, but mine were using a separate sounder affixed to the D-pillar. I assumed that someone had managed to wire a sounder into the PDC module, as the one in the IPK obviously wasn't working. I have just had my IPK repaired by Rick, as the display was failing and he also replaced the sounder. The chime for lights left on and seat memory is now working as intended. On trying the parking sensors, I'm getting a long beep when selecting reverse, but nothing else. The sounder at the back is still beeping away, as it did before. Trying to figure out what is going on, I looked at the sensors. My sensors don't look like the OE sensors that I've seen online. This leads me to believe that an aftermarket parking sensor kit has been fitted, due to the IPK sounder not working. I haven't removed my rear bumper - yet - so I don't know if the original sensors are anywhere to be found. The question is, what to do next? Do I try to restore the original system? This could involve sourcing a lot of parts. If I retain the current system, how do I stop the long error beep every time I select reverse? Do I just disconnect the PDC module, or is that going to create other problems? Anyone have any ideas? |
