Bonnet Cable Snapped - Help??
Hi,
Edit (this bit removed as we don't want every scallywag knowing how) Great, got there eventually but now find that the passenger side cable has snapped at the bonnet release catch, so now I have a closed bonnet with a snapped cable. Please Please can anyone help, I have read that access through grille is possible, but my brother in law also has a Rover 75, took off his grille for comparison and cannot see how this would enable me to access bonnet catch. Hello again.
There is a thread on here somewhere with that information I will see if I can locate it, hopefully someone will know where to look and pick it up first. |

Thanks,
I would appreciate if you could find me this info, as my car is currently jacked up and I need this to get to work and pick up the kids. Costing me a fortune in bus/taxi fares at the moment. |

I am a bit confused, there should be a single cable that runs from the drivers footwell into a box mounted on the left hand side of the engine bay as you look from the front of the car.
Out of this box comes 2 cables and when you say passenger side has snapped, presumably you mean the cable which is nearest the passenger side, as strictly they are both on the drivers side ? Also how do you know which cable has snapped if the bonnet is closed, did you or someone snap it in the process of trying to get it open using the instructions given ? Just trying to fully understand the problem, as not heard of cables snapping before, just popping out of the box, which is why the mod is recommended.

Hi Trebor,
Yes you are correct, the cable which leads from the drivers side to the passenger side has snapped at the passenger side, it has actually corroded. So I am left with the passenger side cable out of its plastic coating/moulding hanging out of the drivers side wheel arch. It clearly shows corrosion/rust. I did follow the instructions you mention, but the passenger cable appeared to have already snapped thats why I still can't get my bonnet open. Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS. Don't know what a Mod is? - please can you clarify? Last edited by ALISON2233; 14th May 2008 at 17:00.. Reason: Forgot to mention, bonnet is releasing on drivers side, but is remains closed on passenger side. |

Mod = modification. The modification is about adjusting the divider box under the bonnet to prevent the cables slipping out when you pull on the release handle inside the car. The how-to for this is here: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ead.php?t=4692
Obviously, this is only useful if you can gain access to the bonnet in the first place Can you pull the cable you see dangling to release the passenger-side bonnet release? |

i agree with Simon if the inner cable is hanging from the wheel arch but still attached under the bonnet, cant you pull the cable to release ?

Hi,
Thanks for all your responses, no the cable is still attached to the connector box drivers side, but has come away from the release plunger connected to the passenger side. I am going to have to attempt coming up through the underside of the car this weekend. I will let you all know how I get on. |

Yeahhhhhhh,
Bonnet open at long last, it was a snapped passenger side cable. I have PM to Simon Moderator with how this was done. Just hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. |
