Default Message center retrofit

Not that I doubt the seller but is it correct that if you buy the message center dash, inducator switch and LIGHT SWITCH MODULE, you don't need any work with a T4 to get it all working?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=270237440013

I thought the message center was linked with the VIN or ECU or something.

I'm really interested in this. I don't mind the car thinking it's done 70k for a while when it's really done 33k as I'd get all the new functionality.

Yep,

I did it on mine and it works fine, the only problem I had was the car they came off had traction control and mime diddn't so the traction control warning comes on, not yet had a chance to get it extinguished by T4 (if possible).

A great upgrade though, makes you keep an eye on your MPG and driving habbits.

It should work, but I expect the contrast in vin's will come up whenever connected to T4. The mileage info is stored in the IPK and backed up in the LSM. If both are "used" then you will inherit the mileage of the donor vehicle - if new, I would have thought a T4 session was required regardless ...

Does this mean that my car would suddenly double in mileage to 77K. not good.

if I just swapped the front panels and left the light switch as original would that keep my mileage until I can visit a T4.

I want to upgrade to a messgae center but I also want ot keep the mileage I have as it's ultra low.

You really need to buy a new IPK and have it programmed up, Steven.

Second-hand units cannot be re-programmed to a car. You may be able to get the mileage changed but it will probably cost less in the long run to buy a new cluster.

The IPK would work, but the mileage will register an error as it would be different from the mileage on the LSM. You would still NOT be able to adjust the mileage on T4 - T4 will only sort it out if it is new ... even then, if you fit a new one and drive around a bit before getting it sorted through T4, I think it considers the IPK "old" after some mileage amount (200+ miles?)

Best to just buy a brand new one and do it on T4 straight away - Les has been very good at keeping us supplied with new IPKs - check him out

Cheers
