Bonnet Cable
Hi Guys,
I've just tried the bonnet cable mod as I was having a little bit of trouble closing the bonnet. I've done the trick with the cable ties but the bonnet still doesn't seem to want to shut without a few attempts and having to jiggle the lever around inside the car. I've taken the trim off from around the cabin and it looks like the cable has stretched a bit and is now not moving within the sheath. It looks like I've got about an inch of extra cable at the cabin end. I've had a look on Rimmers and have found 3 possible cables; http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-FSE000130 http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-FSE000140 http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-FSE000150 I presume I can ignore that last one as that looks more like the one that goes from the block to the latch but which of the first two is the one I want? Thanks, |

Have you slackened off the bolts on the slam panel, either side of the holes for the bonnet pins?

I've undone them about half a turn each, one is still quite tight. Should they only be finger tight, very tight or somewhere in between?

The bonnet will never close properly unless the "half moons" move freely when you pull the cable release. Have someone pull the bonnet release and watch for the catches moving, if they don't, then you'll need to clean & lubricate.

you should see like a crescent moon shape in the pin holes if they are perfectly circular then the mechanism is stuck may be possible to flood it with brake cleaner to release and then re grease but the best way is to drop them off and give them a proper clean and grease or you could just buy new ones https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/rov...atch-fps100442

Right think I've got it this time, loosened the bolts off a little bit and that seems to have got it.
I also put a couple of washers on the white plastic bit of the lever cable to act as spacers and it seems to have sorted out the slack in the lever. End result is this; Hopefully that'll be the end of the problem now. |

The catches were very well lubricated.
