It’s not a wire issue that causes the lsm to ignite, if you open one up you will usually find dust covering everything and sometimes corrosion on the board.

I would advise everyone to strip them down and give a good clean, at least then you will have done all you can to prevent this.

You can also remove the self tappers that hold the lsm in place and the ones holding the lower panel, fit plastic scrivets instead... should the worst happen you have a chance of pulling the lsm out and quashing then flames.
Added to my to do list

Hmm... LSM, what's that? Is there a guide somewhere for checking this?

Just to clear, I don't think the light switch module (LSM) spotaniously ignites whilst sitting in your garage (unless perhaps you've just put it away after a nightime drive and it's started to smoulder). Otherwise sound advice for everyone not in the know to remove, clean and probably modify the fasteners - and fit the under seat fire extinquisher add-on (or have one handy in the cabin/and boot), it's exactly in the right place to prevent a complete melt down should it happen whilst you're driving.

2 questions - what do you clean it with - contact cleaner? and how do they come apart.

Cheers
Martin

Thanks everyone, particularly the photo Brian! It looks like a stupidly easy thing to check, so I had better get it done.
