Interesting it says DPF regen/filter cleaning is impacting urban areas but my understanding is that generally for full DPF regeneration its normal to have to drive at a constant 50mph or faster for at least 10 minutes so outside of a good dual carriageway or nearby motorway cant see many people cleaning filters up and down the high street . But then again are new diesels really dirty ......... the Germans think not (well they would wouldn't they ) https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-ne...o-new-research

Said before and said it again.

Lpg.

All taxis, vans under 3.5 tons and buses should be lpg.

We had the technology after World War 2 when lpg cars where common due to fuel shortages.

LPG produces 33% less CO2 emissions than petrol and 45% less CO2 than diesel. LPG vehicles produce up to 82% less Nitrogen Oxide pollutants than petrol and 99% better than diesel.

Instead of chasing all this electric car rubbish which just shunts the emissions else where never mind the environmental cost of getting the battery components out of the soil and then chemically refining them, lpg is far better being naturally occurring and also a by product of petroleum production.

I'm planning exactly that, all my vehicles will be lpg going forward, even if I have to diy the kits and get them certified.

You can get lpg delivered to home also and pay the vat on it before delivery. A 1500 litre tank buried in your back garden with a hose to connect your vehicles to.

My plan at least. Imo lpg cars will become very saught after soon. They need to push this and get them under emission exemption again.

The high street sensors must be picking up the last minute "Italian tune ups" prior to taking it in for an MOT

LOL Yeah the Germans would say that as they're facing a carmageddon of job losses.
4100 announced today.

Having had 2 LPG cars I would do it again. Not just to convert a thirsty V8 but a modern petrol car for everyday use. It causes less wear on the engine too. Cleaner internal component making it more reliable.
I’m staggered at how it has not caught on. Vauxhall tried dual fuel cars in the naughties but all the taxi drivers bought them and ran up 300k miles before scrapping them.

The article does not mention banning cars altogether but from driving thru.

Problems with public transport :-
These are examples that I can think off and I'm sure there are many others and somehow they need to be overcome either by improved public transport, locations of destination or a way of thinking.

convenience, the times it runs ( either too early or too late)
convenience, the place it runs to and from ( 20 mins to get public transport to start journey, 20 mins walk to get to my destination one finished with public transport)
convenience, the time it takes to complete a journey (car 20 minutes, public transport 1 hour)
convenience, going from place to place in the same day, see the points above
convenience, the stuff I have to carry is too big, heavy
"unsafe" walk to public transport
Rain
cost.

Like your first paragraph. Proves a point does it not. It is not really about cutting emissions, it’s about money, money, money. Or the fact that you do not emit anything from the exhaust if you pay the money, money, money. Makes me sick that we seem to just accept it.

When i go to Cardiff with her in doors we always use our free bus pass.
If they would make the fares on bus and train more acceptable then i am sure people who have to pay would do likewise.

Simple solution for me - avoid Birmingham City Centre.

They'll have to kill me before they make me sell Tarquin.

Yes absolutely, they need to reduce fares for everyone if they want us out of private cars, I should imagine the £10/year concessionary travel pass charge for using trains/trams in GMTE area will go towards that. there are subsidies available for retrofitting buses to reduce diesel emissions so why not fares.

York city have just awarded £1.6million to their local bus companies prior to their CAZ. https://airqualitynews.com/2020/01/1...lean-air-zone/
