Trouble is they won't come to realize the consequences of their actions unless it hits them or their family where it hurts;- ie. in the wallet. How about they have assets seized and sold to the replacement value of the goods destroyed. That would take the burden off insurace co's having to pay out and give a real message to the lowlifes; assuming you can actually catch them n the first place.

Update...... The car has been taken away to be valued and destroyed. I explained to the insurance people that the car was in a lovely condition prior to the theft and that i was a member of this club. They said that it does help being a member of such an organisation as it shows you care for your vehicle, I have also sent them photos of her so they can see the shine hopefully they will take pity on me and make me a decent offer.
I have been trawling through auto trader and e bay to find a replacement
but no luck as yet. Will keep you informed.
