You be the Judge.
This link might be of interest to you
Quite simply it puts you in the position of the sentencer and allows you to compare your views with both the Judiciary as portrayed in the videos and also with other people who have gone through the procedure. http://www.cjsonline.gov.uk/ybtj I'm hoping it might give an insight into the workings of sentencing in the Judiciary and in my view, is worth 20 minutes I ran through all the cases as a sentencer to see whether my views would be in accordance with those expressed in the videos. I won't say anymore at the moment |

Very interesting. I'm half way through and now in recess - it's time for a cuppa.

I've done all four and am rather perplexed how close two of the sentences could be as I thought one of the offences was much more serious. My judgement was more lenient on the former and more severe on the latter.

Facinating stuff thanks
2 of my choices matched those in the sentences given, in the other two I would have given what I thought would be slightly harsher sentences. Russ

Really interesting, 2 correct and 2 incorrect.
The second case of the burglary I found particulary disturbing as the wife and I have just suffered something similar and I know my wife is really upset and terrified of staying in the house alone at night ( i work nights) I know for a fact that this did influence my decision which as a Magistrate i suppose is not acceptable. Raistlin tell me have you ever found yourself in a similar situation in real life, what was your reaction, did you have to stand down from the case? Apart from the burglary case i found it fascinating, more of the same please. Paul |
