Truly sad a whole family gone, if the truth be known this would not have been the first time this driver would have been over the limit.

I think alas you are probably right.

How on earth does a wife and mother carry on?

Why do these people do it?

I used to work with a guy many years ago who would have a couple of pints at lunchtime, a couple more on his way home and then once he had his dinner would have a couple more in the local. We used to reckon he was permanently ''pi55ed''.

He lived about 45 mins away from work and needed his car due to the lack of public transport in the area. One day on his way home he got rear ended by another car and the police were on the scene, they must have smelt the alcohol and he was breath tested and of course failed. Needless to say he lost his licence for 6 months and his wife had to start giving him and taking him to work. After a few weeks she got fed up with this and he started cycling. After numerous late arrivals he got a warning and eventually got fired. We heard a few months later his wife left him and he lost his house.

Hopefully he has learnt his lesson but I fear not.

why do they do it? Not much chance of being stopped, don't care, don't realize, they are drunk so not thinking clearly.
My neighbour drove his car with an mot 7 1/2 months out of date and never got caught. Drove it in 2018 without an mot.

I don't know what the motor insurance position is. They should not pay out to the drunk driver for loss of vehicle and perhaps they should go after the drink driver for the pay out they have to make. Alas their innocent family may suffer.

Utterly horrific, although I didn't know them personally I do work in Barrow with people who knew them. Awful at any time, but on Father's Day of all days...

The s*n need to get their tape measure out, Barrow-Dalton is certainly not 39miles...maybe 3.9mi if you're generous!

Sadly that part of the world has a big issue with driving under the influence, mainly drugs but also alcohol. I really hope the local grapevine that the driver was a repeat offender (as in, previous convictions) isn't true.

So very sad. I hope she has some good support. That's enough to make anyone go off the rails. What a pratt to drive like that.

This exactly why more traffic officers are needed, and less reliance placed upon revenue cameras, truly appalling.

It's to be hoped he has the roughest of times once sent to prison, utter scum.
