[QUOTE=FLYING BANANA;2822212]............................. from the garage, and it’s what I was fearing. The cup at the base of the spring had basically rotted away hence the collapse. The one on the nearside is also close to giving way. So two New shock absorbers are on order. Had I not stopped when I did then the I would have had a blowout on the tyre.[/QUOTE
A car MOT,D on 6th June with such a serious defect .I would be questioning the integrity of the examiner. His incompetence could have killed both you and others. Last edited by tantallon; 1st July 2020 at 16:45.. |

To be fair to the guy that mot’d it it may not of shown obvious damage or any reason to issue an advise. If every bit of rust or corrosion was listed at mot people would complain at that too. Glad your ok though Bob

I'll be having a closer look at our cars Mark - with the tyre protectors fitted it is nigh on impossible to accurately inspect the integrity of the spring cup.

It’s the bilstein ones used on the V8s that suffer more than the standard ones Mike, I am yet to see a standard one rot through. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm very glad to read that Trikey.
However, still worth checking, just for peace of mind. Mike
