Replacement ztt 190 engine
I have just taken my MG ZTT 190 to a rover dealer because I have got a rattling noise coming from the top front part of the engine. The technician said that without stripping it down he reckons its a cam lifter / shaft problem. He also said bearing in mind its done 100k it would probably be better to replace it.
I have had the inlet manifold changed so its not the vis valves so its not that. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement engine please !! |

That's a bit worrying, mine (160 V6) is on 91k miles! I have heard of these engines going to 150k miles or more so it sounds a bit odd.
Have you had it from new? What oil have you used? I know some V6 owners reckon that their engine is much quieter on the factory recommended semi-synthetic 10W40 as opposed to any of the 0W40 or 5w40 synthetics. Could it be piston slap? |

I brought the car with 92k on the clock. I have been using 10W40 as the engine has done quite a few miles. The rover Tech did say that this is quite rare and this was only the second V6 lump that he knows has done this......... Piston slap???? how would I find this out and is there a cure for it?? |

Piston slap is a condition IIRC where by the sideways movement of the piston in the more causes a knocking sound. It's still a new engine required.
Just make sure that if you do get an engine it is a 190 and not a 175bhp engine from a 75. Most on Ebay seem to sell for around a reserve of £750 or more. |
