Jaguar s type cars
Has any one on here, had one the S type Jaguars 2.7 V6 Diesel twin turbo, I have found one, which i must admit i do like these, look so classy especially the 2007/2008 ones which has 127000 miles with full history and all the belts done. In Grey colour, are these any good, always wanted to try one of these?
or should i steer to a later 2008/2009 Jaguar XF?? your experiences please if you have any |

Hi
I have owned numerous Rover 75's and on my 3rd S type. The first was a 3.0 petrol year 2000 which had the Ford sourced 5 speed box which failed and cost me about £1800 for a recon unit. This was followed by a 2005 2.7 diesel with the 6 speed ZF box and I loved it. I sold it to a friend almost 4 years ago and he still has it, now with 137000 miles on the clock and he takes it to the South of France every year. He has spent a lot of money on the car this last year, including a number of suspension replacements and welding to the cils on both sides, heater control valve and gearbox fluid replacement but he still thinks it is worth spending the money. I followed this with an X Type 2.2 for a year and then an XF 3.0D. This is the natural successor to the S Type and is a superb motorcar in every way. The uprated 3.0 gives a useful power and economy improvement compared to the 2.7 unit. 18 months ago I sold a 32000 mile 1 owner Rover 75 2.5 Connoisseur and bought a 2003 S Type 3.0 petrol with LPG and intend keeping it as long as possible providing LPG remains available locally (Morrisons 57p/litre) |

Continuing my story, I can say that I love the retro styling of the S type and also admire the more modern look of the XF. As a prospective buyer you need to decide which you prefer. Both cars can be expensive to maintain so a good independent specialist is a must. They are both a joy to own if you find the right one.
As I said, I now have a petrol with LPG which suits my use, mainly local runs with only an occasional longer trip. S type diesels and all XF's have a dpf which really does not like short trips so consider this when making your choice. Also the RFL is expensive on the 2.7 post 2005 (£500+) and they are now getting on in years so there are more potential corrosion problems. If you are not confident in your own choices then I would recommend having a professional survey done - they are complex motors! Hope this helps. |

I have owned a 2.7 06 plate manual. I bought it with just under 100k on the clock around November 2017. It was a nice steer and the manual 6 speed box was a slick unit. I used it to replace my 2001 connie which had the slave cylinder fail so I was aiming to get rid rather than repair the Rover. I actually put the Rover back on the road.
Back to the Jag I enjoyed it and although quicker and a little quieter there were things I noticed as I got used to the car. I didn't think it was as well designed as the Rover which was possible down to the compromises Jaguar had to make using a Lincon as the basis for the design. The seats were good and the leather was a step up from the Rovers. Where I was seeing nearly a 50 mpg average in the Rover (Mainly cruising on Motorways) the Jag only returned 37mpg. After 8000 miles the DPF issue raised its head leading to a spend of over £1700 which still never sorted the issue. I sold it to a Jaguar enthusiast who owned his own Garage in Scotand. He was convinced he would have it back on the road in a few days but it was never taxed again! I did also have the car mapped from the standard 207 bhp to around the 260bhp. It made a noticable increase in the pick up on speed but they are not slow standard even compared to a 160bhp rover CDTi. Be aware of rust around the wheel arches and behind the sill covers (both known issues). Excluding the issues I had I would have to say I prefered my Rovers to the Jag, my view and its a personal one. Get a good one and you will enjoy get a bad one and you will regret it. I would say get on www.jaguarforum.com and look to view/buy from a club member if you really need to scratch that itch. Best of luck Last edited by Mr bountyfull; 13th March 2020 at 20:03.. |

Cheers Guys, I have to admit, I love the Rover 75 Car its superb, but were using the tourer like its going out of fashion, taking and clocking a 1000 miles every two weeks, shes on 323000 miles now. Im trying to cut it down a little or shell be run into the ground i know Taxi mileages are not that high for private miles, hence my search for used Brit car.
I do have my XJ so im using that, but find myself going back to my R75 again and again!!!! So I thought , why not get a used S type or XF type, so hence the question to you guys as well aware you lot have seen some models in your times. My heart says S type as its close to the R75 shape, but my head say go for the XF 4 pot diesel 2.2., then again we have the XE too for the wife to run around in, if we can find the right Jaguar model, has to be a BRIT brand nothing else will do. |

2008. Looking for either Rover 75/Jaguar S Type. Tried two Jags, and three Rovers. Bought the Rover cdt which I still have 12 years later.Better seating in the rear of the Rover. Not my comment, my friends wife’s comment. She calls it ‘the limousine ‘ .And her husband has got a Jaguar x type. Says it all really.

I went to a car auction with every intention of buying an S type, sat in it, felt very nice, nothing wrong with the car, thought to myself 'ill have a bid when it goes through' It was one of the last lots of the evening...
While waiting I had a sit in a 2.5 Connie SE.. That was over 12 years ago now, never owned another marque since.
