In prep for the midnight departure southwards, all fluids and pressures checked. Petrol filled up and roof rack with roof box fitted plus couple of decals to break up the plain black box.
Also fitted Ricksta's comfort indicator kit, so comfortable indicating when changing lanes on the way down too now

Had some weird noise coming from the brakes, where I would have an intermittent squeel even when driving on the highway. Recently replaced the front discs + pads, and figured they might have gotten a bit too dirty from the new disc coating. Found this unpleasant suprise when taking the wheel off:

Turns out the backing plate of the outside Brembo pads had shifted off-center, now rubbing against the saddle of the brake caliper. You even see the dent it left on the backing plate!

Ended up just pulling them off, relubing and put everything back together. Furthermore, this little undertaking led me to my next project: replacing the bump stops on the front struts (the left side is particularly bad, the right side actually doesn't look too bad)

Cool

Filled Banana up with go go juice. Then took her for a wee run. Love driving her, think I might keep her.
We will be at the Mount Edgecumbe car show tomorrow with the Southwest MG/Rover group. 2 ZT’s, 1 ZTT, 1 Rover 75 and a proper Mini on our stand.

Default What I (nearly) did...

So, rain abated today. I thought, great day to replace the rear bumper for the much less battered one from Rob. So, after removing the antediluvian 'scrivets' and the rusted solid screws, I popped the old one off.
I offered the replacement up, slid it forward trying to ensure everything was aligned. It wasn't. Not a bit. The underneath was fouling on the towbar electrics, the sides resolutely pointed downwards and any attempt to bring them up resulted in a yawning gap at the outside edge of the light clusters.
So off came the new one, and back went the old one, like a glove.
*naughty word, naughty word, naughty word*.

Today I replaced the defunct rear door o/S central locking, with one that worked. Easy job now I know what is involved. Front door looking to be done when I get a another working lock. I intend having a look inside the rear door lock to see if I can replace what has packed up, probably one of the little motors that work the opening and closing functions.

After hearing a slight chuffing noise when driving I decided it was time to strip and clean all the brakes. They weren't too bad but all cleaned and copper greased up now. Test drive shortly to confirm.
Also changed the brake fluid as it's been at least 3 years since it's been done, I have had it 3 years now and haven't done it myself. fluid was a bit dark so definitely worth doing.
I did discover that the front dust caps for the slider bolts on drivers side are missing so need to get a pair of those.
