The proof
And here's the proof.
This is a pic of the gear lever box taken on 12th August, immediately after the box was removed from the car. The two cables are as they left the factory. I can tell by comparing the wear marks on A & B in the pic with the actual cables that A is the short cable and B is the long one. The knuckle on cable A will not reach the ball on the gear lever - so the cables can only go this way round in the box. Likewise, the cables will only fit one way round in the abutment bracket because the two mounts are different widths and thicknesses The short cable will only fit the mount on the right (R), it will not fit the mount on the left (L). Therefore the cables cannot be swapped over. So the long cable B goes to L and the short cable A goes to R - which means they do cross over after all. Red cable (or Green MGR) goes to R and crosses the Black cable (or White MGR) which goes to L. In other words, I was right the first time and I've just wasted two whole days for absolutely nothing. Note to anyone new looking at this: ignore posts 31 and 39 because they're complete %>^^*$ks. Last edited by Blink; 17th November 2020 at 17:54.. |
