Default Brake advice

My rear brakes are defo on the limit now, so I am going to replace within the next couple of weeks, and will probably do the lot while I'm about it.

Soooooo, recommendations for discs and pads, please?
Not looking for silly priced rally-spec Carlos Fandango specials, but want decent anchors for when the inevitable occurs.

Many thanks.

I can highly recommend Pagid from ECP, prices are normally competitive too

Remember to replace your handbrake shoes in the same go!

I have had 2x bad experience with Pagids. The front Pagid discs on BOTH my two 75`2 have gone warped within 20000miles!! Its was probably a bad batch from ECP, but there will be no more Pagids on me. Sad, as it seems to be a quality product.

I have fitted these to my rear, and everything is mint so far:

It really doesn't matter Craig. What is more important is the care you will take when carrying out the work. Brush all the brake dust off the calipers and finish with brake cleaner spray. Inspect the piston for corrosion. Remove the caliper sliding pins, clean them up and smear lightly with red brake grease (any good motor factor sells it). Use a torque wrench on the fixing bolts.

I don't often disagree with beinet1 but on handbrake shoes I do! They shouldn't be worn at all because they only hold the car stationary, so leave them alone if they're working. You can remove the drum and dust it out by all means, but remember that the readjustment will be fiddly and annoying. Sorry Einar.

Don't like Pagid either, don't seem to last long and very dusty.

I always fit Mintex discs and pads can be bought for a good price and I have never had any problems with them, used them for over 30 years, each to their own but that's my recommendation.

My car supposedly had Pagid discs and pads supplied by the owner fitted in August 2013 together with a fluid change according to an invoice I have.

They suffer real fade at speed that isn't caused by the fluid boiling or air as the brake peddle stays solid and doesn't go to the floor. They work reasonably well in town and just doddering around but at speed are frightening. Last week I found a quite road to test them, took the car up to 80 and slammed on the brakes, pulled up reasonably well down to 40 then completely faded out with no braking effect at all. Pressing harder did nothing. They then went straight back to working normally at normal speeds. They are definitely dangerous at anything over 60.

The pads have little wear on them, but the discs show more than I would expect and have a mottled appearance, and I have been advised by a well respected T4 member that shows they are of poor quality manufacture with inconsistent material in the castings and require removal. To that effect on his recommendations I have just ordered a full set of discs, pads and shoes from Unipart, which are most likely to be to the original design and spec. Total cost £165.95, more expensive than Euro parts and Pagid but if they are what is fitted to my car I would never take a chance on fitting them again. Safety comes first over price.

As mentioned above, our Borg & Beck kits seem good at 'chucking out the anchor' when needed.
Currently have them on the front (rear soon, too) of the ZT-T, and boy do they stop well.
