It's not removing it, it is installing it that is the problem

Any, and I mean any minor bubble or blemish in the prism to screen interface, results in the rain sensor ECU seeing that as a "spot of rain"

The prism isn't secured to the screen with a sticky pad, but rather a UV curing clear resin adhesive similar to this......LINK

people have referred to a 3m sticky pad on ebay for sticking sensor to screen, I've not got a link to it for securing the sensor. Having looked at the pad on ebay I've been puzzled by it, as it seems to not to have a "hole" for the sensor to see through.



thank you Brian for explaining about the installation. Would a windscreen fitter be the best person to fit the sensor?

The adhesive pad is transparent, it has red film so dont let the image deceive you, it is fixed to the prism lens, which is then stuck to the screen. Then you fit the ECU over the prism and clamp in the locking rod.
Positioning is absolutely vital, and as Brian says any blemish of bubble in the positioning will be detriment to the functionality of the system.

Must confess I found the auto sensing windscreen wiper a nuisance and got Jules to disconnect it.

I found myself wishing it to come on sometimes and quite often reverted to just giving the wiper stalk a tap anyway.

I can't remember fully ( and stand to be corrected ) but I seem to recall that with it operational it interfered with the normal delay on the intermittent setting on the wiper stalk.

I find it much better just to use the normal delay setting with the auto sensor disconnected

I find the rain sensing works absolutely fine and it is especially handy when I busy with the driving. Even if you don't use it, there is always the option to use the manual single wipe. All you lose on the rain sensing, is the timed intermittent wipe. On vehicles so equipped with intermittent wipe, I find I tend to spend a lot of my attention adjusting the timing and frequently forgot to turn it off, resulting in screeching blades. None of that with the rain sensing and they react much faster than I can, to provide a wipe I go through a puddle of spray. Turn on and forget, they do the rest.

Both came with my car and to be honest I like the rain sensor wipers, you sometimes have to fiddle a little with the rotary button on the end of the stalk to get the right sensitivity for the conditions but otherwise I think they are great - would I spend a moment or any money trying to retro fit them to a car that didn't have them? no, they're not that great

The auto dimming mirror on the other hand I'm not as keen on, I find the trigger point too sensitive when it does trigger I find it pretty much turns the mirror off and you can't really see anything at all through it

No problem here, apart from when trying to reverse out of my dark garage into sun light. It decides someone has main beam on behind and not seeing any light at the front - it goes to maximum dimming.

It has a reverse switch wire that turns it off when reverse is selected though, so even if it was sunlight or headlights it wouldnt dim at all while in reverse
