Windscreen Wiper - Occasional Total Failure
Rover 75 CDI Connoisseur SE Saloon (2001)
The problem is the wipers totally fail to operate occasionally and have done for 2 to 3 months. Twice been to Rover garage (Staddons of Budleigh Salterton) and wipers have worked all day long while with them - so no fault found and no repair effected. Today wipers worked with no problems on and off for a 1 hour drive this morning but not at all on the return trip - which was not easy or safe due to rain showers. The garage is usually my last resort but having tried everything I needed a quicker fix than I could achieve. I'm now stuck and requesting any advice from any member please on how to sort this frustrating (and dangerous) problem. I will check the plenium yet again tomorrow but this has been checked so often with no obvious blockage or wet ECU that I not expecting this to be the cause of my problem. |

Do they fail completely or go into intermittent mode?
Is the speedo working during off/failure? If so take a look at the ABS connector it is prone to water ingress particularly when heavy rain flooding. check my posting on ABS/TC in tech. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=247845

Thanks for your response - much appreciated.
The wipers fail completely - not working in any mode. Washers still work also. This has occurred sometimes for minutes, other times for 3 days or more. There were no other 'failures' during this wiper failure state - no other problem while they worked either. A real frustrating problem which is a real danger when driving and wipers do not work when required. Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed please. |

Many thanks T-Cut - your information helped me understand the garage work.
It was the red/green wire circuit failure from the BCU to the wiper relay which was the cause of the wiper failure. The section removed was passed to me - this included a previously repaired section where a length had been soldered in to replace a previous failure. The problem was one end was soldered correctly - the other was not (it was a 'dry' joint). This had been corroding and resulted in the problem. This all goes to show nothing can be taken for granted. Thanks for all information |
