I don't think that this is plug leads or ignition coils. I had a misfire recently due to a faulty ignition coil. It was quite obviously a misfire and the engine didn't stall at any time.

The first thing I think you should check is the accelerator cable adjustment at the throttle butterfly. Do you have the instructions for this?

Simon
When one of my leads failed, the tickover became erratic and on occasions the car would hesitate and stall. Check in the dark, and you may see a spark jumping from the lead to the metal part of the engine. The rubber covers become brittle and are not always obvious. With new leads and plugs, my car was transformed. There was a factory note about the early cars with lead failures.

You sir, are one very lucky man!.
Yes Sir, and mind you, it's a second hand, I bought from someone who came from UK. I never had serious problems like this one, which am failing to fix, the other problems were just minor, but I hope sooner or later it will be done.

Okay noted Sir will try to get new ones. Of course there is one front lead with the outer front rubber / plastic damaged, I did wrap with the masking tape for it to hold the sparks. Will try to change that one

Sorry for the delay in replying Raf. Here is the procedure from MG Rover's official dealer workshop manual (RAVE):
  1. Before adjusting cable, ensure that it is correctly routed and located.
  2. Release cable adjusting nut from [the slot in] the abutment bracket [by pushing upwards].
  3. Hold throttle cam in fully closed position.
  4. Rotate adjusting nut until all slack is taken out of the inner cable and nut is in contact with the rear face of the abutment bracket. [During this operation] ensure that throttle does not open.
  5. Refit throttle cable adjusting nut into abutment bracket.
  6. Operate throttle pedal and ensure that full throttle pedal movement is available.

I hope that makes sense!

Simon
