Default Victory in Europe Day

A the risk that this might evolve into a stranger thread, may I take this opportunity to thank all those who Gave during the Second World War; gave something or ultimately gave their lives.

I have said many times that I firmly believe that I have lived through the best times and gained the best benefits. I was born in early 1953 and always had our Queen Elizabeth in my life.

The National Health Service was born just after the War as a result of the experiences and knowledge discovered there.

I am comfortable in that though I am alone, I have a job available to me and I could leave at any time, accompanied by a good pension. A lucky "b".

I am lucky too that I have been in organizations that encourage development (even though I would say I have not taken advantage of that), during childhood and as an adult. We have the internet and communications that are beyond the dreams of those involved in the conflict of the World Wars, what a difference that would have been. But, many of the advances that I and my generation have experienced came about by the forced invention and development necessary during war.

I'll stop now, I am thankful to many.

Ditto all the above. I'm deeply, deeply grateful to all those who have fallen in all the conflicts this country has faced so that we have all the great blessings we enjoy today. Their sacrifice is our salvation. God rest you all...and thank you from the bottom of my heart. My family lost loved ones, but we remember them all.

I encourage everyone today to take some time to remember everyone involved in freeing our country.

My Mum used to tell me stories of working in the factories in Coventry to assist with the war effort, I can’t imagine what these ladies and gentlemen went through, and I prey that generations to come never have to endure times like that.

Thank you to all our heroes, we will always remember you.

I thank those that have gone before me to give me the life I have.

Many British families gave a safe home to German children (Jews), they saw past the nationality, they too deserve respect.

And if it wasn’t for others (Polish, Sikh etc) The outcome may have been different.

Agree with all the above.

Just a simple and heartfelt "Thank You" from me.

Andy.

Echo all above, the debt is beyond measure. I enclose another of my family photos. Mum and Dad, August 1942, Dad's rare home leave. He was a Sapper, Mum was a Clippie on the trams in Liverpool. Everything I am, I owe to them. Curiously, I was born exactly 9 months later. Odd, that.

Hear hear. Thanks to all of those 75+ years ago that stood up to the spread of the evil Nazi empire and the Axis powers.

I do realize that if it weren't for the Second World War, my parents would never have met, and nor would those of my late partner - so many effects.

I decided to have a very British dinner today, so had toad in the hole with roast potatoes and a creamy mushroom sauce, followed by rhubarb crumble and custard; well I enjoyed it.
