Kv6 starting issue
Hi all, drive to a job, fine, now won't start. No sounds at all from starter motor? No click from solenoid, just no sound at all. Battery at 12.45v. Added booster, still nothing. Removed starter, checked solenoid, clean. Appears no trigger to solenoid. Any ideas please. Thanks John

Is it automatic? If so, check the cutout switch to start in P or N only.
Similar to this!

Place your multimeter on the removed white/red connector and turn the ignition key to "start". Do you see 12v? Simon

Thank you both for you advice. Sorry for the late reply, work gets in the way! No voltage from the white/red wire to solenoid. So must be cutout switch. I will try to locate, assumption it's in the console? Cheers, John. Day 2, Well, found the imobilizer, removed, dismantled, cleaned, tested all points for connectivity.
Ran jumper from solenoid to positive, started and drove fine. Where do I look from here? Thanks John Last edited by Giroud; 13th June 2020 at 07:38.. Reason: Additional information |

It's over to the multiplex experts I'm afraid John. The immobiliser ECU (the EWS) receives a supply directly from the ignition cranking switch. It then passes this to the starter solenoid. There's nothing else in the circuit except for a 50 amp fuse link (FL12), but if all other ignition related functions work then that must be ok.

If the car has a sunroof, I'd suspect the EWS to be water damaged, I've seen this on numerous occasions now, even if you live on the Queensland coast
Make sure the car is in neutral ignition in position 2 then apply 12v directly to the starter Lucar terminal, does it now start? If it does, first check fuse 6 in the passenger compartment fusebox, if this is ok, then your next step is to remove the EWS and check the wiring for continuity from pin 1 of the plug which is a white and red up to the starter motor Lucar Another possibility, quite unlikely however is the transponder has come adrift from the key, or is corrupt in some fashion, if you have a message centre speedo, is there a picture of an engine with a cross overlaid? Firstly not acquainted with Automatics - But could a failing cam shaft sensor be the culprit - assuming your car is a non starter ( as opposed to non starter and cut outs ) - if your car is non starting and cutting out then i would consider the crank sensor.

Thanks so much for your input. Yes the sunroof has leaked, interesting drain solution! No Brian, no cross through the engine pic. In park or neutral the car starts and runs if I use the jumper wire from the solenoid to the battery. Just total silence otherwise irrelevant of immobilizer position. I'll check the EWS over the next day or 2, work interfering again! Perhaps a starter button.....I think not. Thanks again, John

Worth checking to see if the ignition switch is providing a voltage to the EWS, if only to rule it out. If it is then a temporary jumper wire across the EWS will return normal operation until you can get it sorted.
