Default Speed awareness courses!

Speed awareness courses have been suspended because of the Covid-19 virus so if you get caught speeding you wont be offered the option and instead you will be issued with fixed penalty notice & points on your licence.

That might deter those that are not supposed to be out and about.

My local constabulary have publicised some of the ludicrous speeds that have been recorded by their speed checks since lockdown took effect. There are obviously yet another group of morons out there who think that, as there are a lot less vehicles on the road, they can safely travel at (worst case reported locally) 132 mph.
I genuinely think that at that speed - the car should be taken off them and crushed - and the driver given a jail sentence for dangerous driving.

Couldn't agree more. Anyone driving at those speeds need taken off the roads.

I had to make a delivery last week to Cheltenham in my van along the A40, normally this bit of road is packed and I am lucky if I can get up to 40mph. Last week I was the only vehicle all the way there and back and that was in the middle of the day.

When I got back my wife thought I hadn't been because I was back to quick.

Just a quick update to say that this isn't the case. They have just moved the courses from classroom to camera based (i.e. virtual courses).

Don't ask how I know this

Am I right to think it is quite legal in some parts of the Isle of Man and in parts of Germany to reach such speeds?

As I understand it, there is no national speed limit in either of the two countries mentioned. Germany has advisory limits on the Autobahns, and specified limits on urban roads etc. Ditto with the Isle of Man.

In both cases, I suspect the police could prosecute on the basis of dangerous driving, or a similar offence, even if there was no actual speed limit enforceable.
To be honest, the twisty and undulating nature of IOM roads wouldn't encourage me to travel at high speed - unless I was in a Prodrive Subaru Impreza WRX - or similar - with tarmac suspension and a damn good co-driver calling the pace notes

Not on a motorbike at an AVERAGE speed of 130mph then?

Admittedly over the TT course with the 30's etc, suspended.

However, I understand that the 30's etc. are very strongly enforced - and rightly so.

I've posted before that we've been 2 up, fully loaded, on our bike in Germany with the Sat Nav registering over 130mph and we weren't the fastest vehicle.... German lane discipline was awesome.

But, there's a time and a place. While over there we had the opportunity to do the Nurburgring as we were staying less than a couple of hours away.

But, we found out that the 'ring had been closed for more than a week and this was the first day back open and there was only 1 session for an hour or so and it was a nice day.

So, I bottled it, figuring that every petrol head German in the locality with their Porsche, M3 etc. would be making a B line for the place and I didn't want to become a Porsche badge or be a dent in the armco. And there might have been that lass in a Transit

There's a time and a place.......

Take care, stay safe.

Andy

What happens when the vehicle owner finds out?
