Callipers sliding pin lubrication
Is it ok to use a smear of coppaslip to lubricate the calliper sliding pins.?
I recall reading somewhere that a “special” lubricant should be used. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hi there. I wouldn’t use copper grease as it will dry out and you will probably end up doing the job again in a short space of time.
My choice would be red rubber grease or a slight amount of silicone grease. I only use copper grease on the back of pads and bolt threads. Some of the more knowledgable will be along to answer shortly 👍🏻

No, copper grease is petroleum based and will soften and swell the rubber boots.
If you have any silicon or red rubber grease you can use those or get the proper formulated brake grease. |

I have used copperease on my pins since I have had the car, 12 years. Never had any problems with anything to do with using it.

I've just service my brakes, removing and lubricting the pins.
Whatever was used last time had dried to a consitency like tar- not so much a lubricant as a glue. All cleaned and lubed with Apec brake grease. Calipers can get hot (depends how you drive, obviously) so I think they need something intended to cope with high temeratures. It's the stuff they supply in a little foil pack with refurbed calipers. https://www.apecbraking.co.uk/Apec/m...-statement.pdf |

Silicone grease works well, a smear is all that is needed. It wont contaminate and rubber.
Don't buy the automotive version but go to a plumbers merchant and they sell it in a handy tub for assembling plastic pipework and its a lot cheaper and I think a better consistency. Steve |
