Haynes page 9.6 (21) clears ECM
After six years I've noticed that on this page of Haynes, regarding changing brake pads it says: "Turn the ignition key to position 1, and leave it there for at least 30 secs without starting the engine. This clears the brake pad warning fault stored in the ECM, and turns out the brake pad wear warning light."
Now does this have any other useful clearing function? Dave

Brake pad wear warning is NOT stored in any ecm, replacement of the worn sensor immediately turns off the light, it is a simple loop circuit.

I notice that's one of several errors I've highlighted in my copy of Haynes, but it's of little consequence.

We always used to refer to it as "The Haynes Book of Jokes"...

If you rip the pages out of the Haynes manual carefully you can make some proper good paper aeroplanes out of them

Guys, don't be hard so on poor old Haynes. Personally, I think he can be forgiven for three or four minor errors. RAVE certainly has a few and for many jobs, I'd rather read Haynes than to try and manipulate the clumsy, printed-sideways, Xpart manual.
As a door stop, the expensive RAVE paperback does a much better job. TC |

I bought a Haynes manual when I bought my first 75. I've only used it for tyre pressures and torque settings (and some of those have been amended!). This forum and its wonderful members have given me much more information, hints and tips! Thanks to all. You know who you are.
