Default Rover 75 petrol versions

My father wants to replace his diesel 75, not best of breed, with 1.8 or 1.8 turbo.

Now we are familiar with the diesel 75 and my father owns an MGF, so we know about the K-series engine. Is there anything specific to the petrol cars we have to look out for?

How easy is it to change the head gasket on a 75? I am assuming it will be much easier than an MGF but that could just be an assumption.

Is the 1.8 powerfully for a heavy car like a 75 or is it better looking for a turbo version?

What MPG will the 1.8 and 1.8 turbo give?
