Looks like you have got a lovely one there, a really good deal and well worth saving the dealer has said in his advert details that the car has ESP and c/ control sadly the photos of the inside show it has neither. But still a lovely car.

Thanks for the advice re cleaning the seats. My first purchase of Vanish, and its very effective. Unfortunately I only have on street parking, and, coupled with lack of knowledge on how to remove them, had to do the front seats while they were in situ. They have come up very well, the drivers took about an hour and a lot of elbow grease. The rear ones are in vey good nick and only need a light clean.
dave lincs Re the service book, the dealer has just called to say that the previous owner has just dropped it, plus a load of service history at his place to collect at my convenience. Re yesterdays message, I am certain that the rear seat is fixed. Nor does it have the centre armrest access slot feature suitable for skis etc found on later models. Hello Paul,
intrigued as to why your new car appears to have a standard number plate fitted over a 'smiley' plate, would that be the original number plate underneath? If that were mine I wouldn't have been able to resist having a look! |

The car was on a private plate for 15 years. When the owner traded it in he had it transferred to his new vehicle and the Rover car reverted to its original T registration. It was originally registered on 27th July 1999.
Due to a c**k up somewhere along the line the new rear plate was supplied as a standard size/shape, rather than the 75's smiley design, and, the 75 smiley plate was supplied with the private registration. It was no good to the owner as it wouldn't fit his new car. It was left in the car, the dealer even pointed it out to me, so yesterday I drilled holes in it, fitted it and screwed the new plate with the original number over it. I'll probably have a R75 smiley shape plate made at some time. Its all above board as I have the number/registration change documents from the DVLC. 9 times out of 10 i would clean the seats also in situ, it was only the fact back in 2012 the seats in the photo had to come out for another reason so they were cleaned while out of the car

I am certain that the rear seat is fixed. Nor does it have the centre armrest access slot feature suitable for skis etc found on later models.
My understanding is that the ski slot behind the centre arm rest, together with fold down rear seats, was a single option, i.e. they came together. It was also an option from the very beginning, not just on later cars. Further, you could order a purpose shaped bag, to prevent wet ski's from dripping onto the seats. Rimmers still had some a while ago. Having said that, it has been reported before, that ALL rear seats fold down. Those designed to, have the push buttons to release the locking mechanism. The others have two tapes (sometimes hard to find) accessible from inside the boot, which when pulled (hard) will also release the locking mechanisms. Regards Mike

Yes, there are tapes, one on each side, close to the wheel arches, and are accessible by sticking your hand between the seats cushion and back.
I pulled one quite hard and got the impression that it was more likely to break than release the seat back. I need to fold the seat back down to tidy its scuffed rear panel. Its accessible from the boot, just easier from inside,. Last edited by Annfield-East; 17th June 2021 at 07:22.. Reason: Correction. |
