Rattles

Just wondered if anyone has managed to cure some of the rattles that become irritating in a car as quiet and refined as the 75.

Notice my tourer has a few more than my last saloon but a couple are still there which I never managed to stop on the saloon.

1) In the vicinity of the drivers dashboard particularly at low revs.

2) Drivers door.

3) Vicinity of seat belts on door pillars.

4) Various squeaks to the rear in tourer.

Has any one tried any additional or specialist soundproofing.

Have you checked your engine mounting. I know this can cause excessive vibration at low revs and brings out all the rattles.


2) Drivers door.
The drivers door. Is this the window or the door itself. If it's the window some people have managed to fix this by effectively bending the top of the door slightly. (1mm)

3) Vicinity of seat belts on door pillars.
Check to see if the auto height adjusters are still attached under your seat. If they are not this can cause rattles as it did in mine. A cable tie sorted it.

I've used some of the sticky back foam sheets from Hobby Craft. It works a treat for getting rid of rattles.

I stopped some noise at the top of the dash by pushing a boot lace in the gap. the air control levers had a noise and I pushed a piece of feeler gauge in the gaps to make it tighter. the noise near the piller could be the door lock button, I put a piece of felt packing round it in the door. at the back there is a rattle caused by the brake pads being loose. I am still trying to stop a vibration at my drivers door front corner of the window after 5 years.

Rattly noise in right ear? It's the ruddy black plastic trim around the top of the door's window frame. Poke it hard and it'll stop for a bit.

If anyone knows of a permanent solution that doesn't involve stripping the door to replace the trim, I'd love to hear it too......

I've had the plastic inside door lock button rattle on both of my ZT-T's. You have to take the door cover off and you will find the metal bar leading to the plastic button covered in a foam sleeve, either the foam sleeve wears allowing the bar to vibrate against the metalwork or the button itself vibrates in its hole, A small piece of glued in felt cures both.

or get some macdonalds straws, cut them down the middle and slide them over the top of the door button. solves both problems at the same time.

Dear Joe

I've seen you mention this fix before - perhaps you could kindly explain a bit more clearly - do you mean you take a short length of straw (how long roughly ?), cut down the side if necessary to open it out, and slide it onto the door button - does it disappear into the door, or do you leave the straw visible around the button - what happens when you lock/unlock the door ?

Sorry if I am being a bit dim and/or pedantic - a bit more info would be great
