Default Gold/Silver resistors

Thank you VERY much gentlemen. I will investigate what my resistor set up is on sunday (weather permitting).

I suppose that I'm very lucky in that I've got a good donor car for many bits that I've needed. On the donor the aircon is A1. It will be just a case of dropping the front bumper on 2 cars if needed. Oh fun!

My problem is that only the high speed fan is working, as you describe. Is this likely to pack up if left as is?

Thanks again. I may be in touch for the kit!

All the best, Steve

Thank you Gentlemen.
I've got a donor car that has the Gold resistor. My daily car has the silver and is running the high speed fan only. Will this damage the fan etc?
Thanks s

It shouldn't damage the fan as such, but the high speed relay won't like continuous use.

Except to burnout the high speed motor brushes much more rapidly.

From the historical reports, the first casualty is the relay. The points overheat and fuse. Then the fan won't turn off until the battery's flat or disconnected. The brushes in the 2-speed motor are better organised and wear much less than in the Mk1 motor, but they will wear out eventually.

If you go green you can keep your donor source intact and save yourself the hassle of having to dismantle on one car and then reassemble on another car with no guarantee of a good result resistor wise. Green anodised resistors can be had for less than £4 for one delivered and for less than £5 for two if you order from China and can wait for the associated delivery time.
