Default 3 Speed Fan Replacement

Hi guys,

Recently I removed the fan of my Rover 75 (2.0 V6 Petrol - year 2000) to replace the bushes since the fan wasn't working on low speed (did the demist test).

This is the video from Arctic I used to try and open the fan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls1BJGxUoPo

Unfortunately, the bolts were rusted shut and one of them broke, the housing was also rusted inside so finally I decided it'll be better to buy a new one.

My question is: do I buy a replacement from the same model (petrol 3 speed) or could I replace it with a 2 speed model (petrol or diesel, which year?) with gold resistor and what modifications do I have to do for it to work?

Arctic Rover 75 Rewired 2 speed fan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uI2R2ILORLo

I know these questions have already been asked by I didnt fully understood the answers found or haven't found the right thread.

Thank you,
Sergiu

The usual replacement is either an after-market alternative system or an MGR 2-speed/resistor controlled type (2-wires into the motor). Either is plug and play for any old 3-speed and widely considered to be more reliable. However, the low speed resistor should be the recommended 100watt 'gold' type. If the MGR fan system you get has the old aluminium/50 watt resistor, you should replace it. You can get the 'gold' resistors from forum traders, eBay or from electronics outlets like RS Components (UK).

Hey T-Cut,

Thanks for the reply. From what I see, the 2 speed fan has a different housing (smaller housing with 2 screws on the bottom https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=57703) while the 3 speed fan is bigger and not sure how I can fit it?

Since I have no way of removing the old motor from my current housing..
..should I buy a second hand housing and try and remove the 3 speed motor, then buy another 2 speed fan and swap the motor with gold resistor?

Am I making it too complicated? )

OK, to remove your fan from your housing simply drill the heads off the bolts, they are not hard.
If you decide to replace with a two speed you will need a petrol fan and relay box. the shortened frames you have seen are from a diesel
Any year will do.
