Kevin when you have yours done would you be kind enough to post info ref cost etc, I asked a question on here ages ago about should I or should'nt have the gasket changed before it goes, the replies were very interesting but also very mixed, so I still have not decided.

Thanks for all your input guys, much appreciated.
I do believe I caught it in time but even so, the car is still under warranty so am letting my ex-rover dealer sort it for me.
We seem to have fell out though, I haven't even washed her this weekend, seems like there's no point as she is being towed away tomorrow and will probably be away for a week or so, so I have spat my dummy out and refused her a wash!
No doubt next weekend I will be out there with water and natty's!

I firmly believe that if it ain't broke don't fix it. How many miles have you done? Is the car using excessive amounts of coolant?

My 11 year old 1.6 Coupe is still on its original gasket at 81000 with no signs of it failing (yet). SWMBO's MGF 1.8 had to be provoked in to failing at 70000 by some numpty (ie. Me) hitting the radiator on a high kerb.

My advice: Leave well alone until you have to.
