Default Door Mirrors

Hi another niggle the car came with was power adjustment on drivers mirror not working, following checking on here I have removed the switches, cleaned contacts etc. still not working. Does any brilliant person out there know if it is likely to be a board fault or something more complicated.

Hi Phil.
Is the switch a normal one or for power fold mirrors, if normal then this maybe of interest to you, usually cleaning the contacts gets them working again.

Hi yes it does have power fold mirrors they work no problem it’s just the adjusting the driver’s mirror. Have stripped it down cleaned all contacts and it’s still the same, won’t even switch over to that side from near side but I have no idea whether it could be the circuit board faulty or something else.:icon_question

I too had this problem a couple of months ago having not operated the mirror glass directions for many months.Mine are powerfolds as well and this function worked fine as it's in regular use.All I did was kept operating the directional switches for probably around5 mins and the free'd themselves off.I've made it a rule now to move the positioning on both sides at least every 2 weeks and it seems to be working.

Also may depend on how you clean them... I tried everything suggested here, with no luck, and eventually used a touch of emery on the brass contacts - did the trick

Dont forget the plugs can get mildew inside. Unplug check carefully and apply contact cleaner and work them in and out numerous times. Also the main door plug on the hinge wall is another culprit for mildew. The water can get in behind the big rubber as it runs down . Pull it apart and do the same with this one. Reseal the rubber boot with some silicon grease to aid fitting and to keep out the damp. ...

I use bike chain cleaner from Halford on mine. First time round, when I first got the car just before lockdown, that was all I had. Second time only a couple of months ago, all the other methods didn't work for me. Back to the buike cleaner and it's all hunky dorey again. It's the citrus one and it doesn't smell too bad.

That's a shame, those brass contacts were gold plated!
Ordinary pencil erazer does the trick.

But it didn't for me

It was a very very light touch with the emery. Or it might have been steel wool... can't remember now

Ink eraser is better, more effective but still not harsh.
