"If you take your vehicle for its MOT and it fails Your MOT extension will no longer apply if you take your vehicle for its MOT and it fails. Your vehicle will need to be fixed and pass its MOT before you can use it again. Example Your vehicle’s MOT was originally due to expire on 3 May 2020, but has been extended to 3 November 2020. You take your vehicle for its MOT in August and it fails. You must stop using the vehicle until it’s fixed and passes another MOT test" Cliff

I had a fail on the number plate on a motorcycle, the tester showed me the manual and I came to completely the opposite conclusion from the same statement , ie it should pass. Fortunately when I queried it with VOSA as it was then ,I was correct.

This is true although on any checks like anpr it will show the latest result as a failed mot. Technically you have an mot and that can’t be removed but you then have the argument that you are driving a vehicle knowingly with a defect. If the defect that has been repaired and you haven’t had a retest I'm not sure how you would stand, I wouldn’t like to take the chance

I’m unsure about motorcycles but with a car if it has two number plate lights and one doesn’t work it’s an advise if it has one light it has to work
