Don’t get me started on why bicycles should carry 3rd party insurance!

All in all I think they are a good thing, electric cars are not the future, I can buy a good car that'll last me years for the cost of 2-3 months rental! Like it or not, scooters and e-bikes are the future for short trip commuting, to reduce congestion and to clean up our cities.

I would have liked to see private owners legalised too, with an age limit and with insurance. No helmets though, there is zero evidence that they are of any nett benefit and considering I can cycle downhill at 60mph without one then making them compulsory for a 15mph scooter does not make sense.

By that argument, are you saying motorcyclists shouldn’t have to wear a helmet when in a 30mph limit?

Absolutely not, like car seat belts, they have an easily proven benefit. A motorcyle helmet is not the same thing as a piece of polystyrene.

Is this vehicle for road inspection? Certainly looks lit up enough underneath...

I saw one the other day go past our house on the pavement at a fair lick, He had no cycle helmet on either

I dare say that mode of personal "last mile" transport will be the only affordable way to travel in towns & cities shortly.

I reason there will be a spate of accidents and the government will say too dangerous and ban them altogether. Also dads will hire them show their licenses and then let their kids ride them to school..not legal but can see it happening.

That's it.
Next Christmas most kids over the age of 10 will have one. Try policing that one!

And when they ride into the side of your car, who will be the one footing the bills the car owner or the scooter rider?

I hope all you guys are going to behave yourselves later this month! up there in the Tees Valley Combined Authority, consisting of Darlington Borough Council, Hartlepool Borough Council, Middlesbrough Council, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council when the first UK E-scooter trials begin.
