If you want to see Senna's footwork at close quarters, here's some on-board footage of the great man driving a Honda NSX road-car on the same track. Bear in mind that the gear-lever is on the wrong side for him and he's wearing his loafers! Despite that, he's got the thing on the ragged edge for the whole lap.

Brilliant to see him stabbing at the throttle way before the apex of the corners which was characteristic of his driving style. None of the other drivers did this

Have to say Lewis Hamilton has been one of my heroes for years now. From every point of view he has been admirable both in his handling of the publicity machine and the track performance.

He has now apparently been told he is not so highly thought of by his bosses. His suggestions of £40million have been rejected with an offer of half that. All he can do is keep winning so as to underline his worth in what could be his last season for Mercedes. But then....Ferrari?

The changes to the steering wheel allowing four wheel steering should make cornering just a bit faster.

It's not four wheel steering, the new DAS system allows the driver to change the toe in of the front wheels allowing better tyre wear and reportedly the ability to warm the front tyres more evenly especially for qualli.

Not entirely convinced i would trust the D/mail to get much accurate with regards to driver pay negotiations especially as Hamilton has said they havn't yet discussed his upcoming contract but time will tell.

His lightning-fast gear-changes and the perfection of his rev-matching while down-changing, simultaneously blipping the throttle and braking, is something else. Today's F1 just doesn't get the pulse racing in the same way:

Totally agree. It has lost much of its raw power and driver engagement with the machine. Gadgets galore now.
Even the noise has gone. Internal combustion is the only race engine that sounds and smells fantastic. The start straight in 1993 when I attended both races in the UK was just fantastic.
I was lucky enough to see James Hunt’s last ever GP car with the Wolfe team. Looked like it was a kit car cobbled together in a shed. Imagine 200mph in that!

Wow! Just watching those again makes me realise how stale it has become. No wonder I get bored awatching the new stuff! RIP Ayrton Senna.

I have just watched qualifying.

I thought that the introductory session and interviews tried hard to pour some oil onto troubled waters.

I then thought that it had all been undone, by seeing a padlock and chain being worn, around his neck; by one of the sports leading contestants.

Can't wait for Brands Hatch to open again, for club racing.

Regards

Mike

Lewis dropped to fifth on the grid for not backing off under a yellow in qualifying yesterday.
That will make things interesting

Personally I think the best man won.

As for the Lewis incident; should have been 50/50 to be fair.
