Couldnt believe it - after the wheel bolt came lose, the pinchbolt amazingly took very little effort to loosen (just my 3ft breaker bar). The strut also came out very easily and I had a spare strut top bearing (bought few years back) to replace the knackered one on the car. All in all, quite a good day for a change!
oh and i guess I had better keep the wife (for now!!!)
