Loved them both.
Excellent car the 820. Mine was the Fastback Vitesse Sport. Super engine.
Best since the P5B v8 and the Triumph range up to mid-1975.

Not all the BL divisions were useless1

I had a Moonraker Blue 3.5 Vanden Plas. Bought it at 4 years old, and had it for 9 years I think. Great cruiser when on the continent. Always reliable.Apart from tyres and exhaust, and a new alternator, that’s all it required, and brakes of course.

The Rover 800 was a very underrated car, I personally liked the looks and it was quite well made, the Honda influence was just right, the decision by the then 'Con' government to sell Rover to BMW was a disaster, as I believe that had Honda been approached Rover would still be trading today.

Daughter in Law has a KIA. Bought at 5 years old with a couple of years of manufacturer warranty left. It's had a couple of issues which is not really too surprising for a 5-6 year old car. The dealer has been fantastic. No sucking teeth or trying to wriggle out of stuff. Just apologise for it going wrong, book it in, get it done and hand it back.

Guess what she'll be having next...

And to quote Churchill:

"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
We had a Kia. It spun a rod bearing and the dealer was hung out to dry by Kia who refused to cover the cost of repairs even though there was a recall in effect for failing rod bearings.
Apparently the VIN was in between two recall groups. It went from a value of ten grand to zero instantly and I will never buy another Kia!

Hi Rich.

And that leads nicely on to the next part of the process where there's certain car manufacturers I'll never, ever, purchase another car from regardless of how much the press etc. say that their latest offering is brilliant, fantastic and the "bad old days" are well and truly behind them.

And you're doing exactly the same. .

I really do wonder if they are remotely bothered about us - because there will always be someone else coming along, so who cares?

Maybe they'd like to think about how many manufacturers are left and what does history tell them about producing unreliable, shoddily put together vehicles and poor customer service.

Yes, but what lasts longer - a Kia or a prawn sandwich?

I suspect the Rover 75 CLASSIC (insert your own view of the spec) owner is making a comment on your daughter's Kia somehow not being up to our Rover CLASSIC standards.
