Default How I fixed the cup holders

For anyone who has a broken cup holder and likes a bit of handiwork instead of buying a new one. It's usually only the plastic locking pins that break, I believe.
I recently discovered I have a passenger (LHD) cup holder which was broken and glued to be immovable by the previous owner. Thanks to Dave (DAS68) I now have both front cup holders and have fixed them.
At first I glued on a new plastic pin but that didn't last more than a week. Since the front cup holders are hard to obtain where I live, I figured out a better fix.
Briefly, I used 3,2 mm (3,0 would have been better perhaps) rivets, 1,4 mm nails, a 1,5 mm drill, a few drops of super glue and, of course, some tools. When fitted, I filed two flat surfaces onto the new pin to aid movement in the guiding grooves. Voilà, two working cup holders.

I don't think I'm the first to do this, but I hope someone will find the pictures useful.

Quick question, are there 2 cup holders in all 75s ? my automatic only has one that opens on the left, when i press the other side it's just solid.

No the drivers side is a blank. You can install a cup holder if you wish, but they are rare, and costly

Thanks for that info on that blank. I got my first 75 last week and was wondering the same thing as pletevl. Best thing I've done so far is to join this club. Ocean of information.

I don't think there are, more common is that there is a single one if any at all. Well, if you have a Connoisseur SE you'll have all the blows and whistles. But the covers are easy to remove, just pull them off and find out.

Nice fix, I will remember that one. I only have one cup holder in the front and it is on the bosses side... err I mean the wife.

The general view seems to be that the driver side one is pretty looking but pretty impractical. They get broken because the driver's knee usually takes precedence. This came as an extra on top of the standard passenger side unit.

Hi T-Cut, I always thought the cup holder was designed and sold for RHD and LHD configurations, e.g would always be fitted to passenger side only.

Same as the phone holder.

Were both actually fitted to top of the range vehicles from the factory?
