When I renewed my arms, I found it way easier, after seeking advice on the forum, to drop the entire rear sub frame after disconnecting everything. In the end, as everything was rotten, i managed to source a great condition subframe complete with all the arms, used but like new. However, getting the bolts out of the rose bushing things that connect the upper arm to the hub was the real pain as mine had rusted in. Good luck.

The reason I have just moved mine on, see post below on main page.

20 years back I would have been underneath and had a go, but not now. The guy who has taken mine on is going to strip out and replace all.

Hope you can get her sorted, few and far between now.

Regards,

Dave.

If all the bolts come out there is no need to drop sub frame. Upper arm change and spring change is not technically that difficult. The hard part is if the bolts have seized or the captive nut comes free, mind you swopping the bottom rubber from old spring to new spring can be a cow.
You will need a short extension, about 100mm to get to the two inner bolts and a "deep" 18mm socket to get to the nut at the hub.

As for where to buy the arms.... I wonder if the replies will be a can of worms

Dmgrs have got the arms but checking their description and pricing leaves me very confused.

RGG104972 described as XPart is £119.99
RGG104962 described as SAIC. Is £79.99

The picture appears to be of the infamous Indian ones (XPart), so why should they be more expensive when their quality is to put it nicely “questionable” ?

Just undo the arb from both drop links, then you can get the springs out and in without a spring compressor. That is before you start on the upper arm and lower arm bolts Jack both sides up and on axle stands first..

Cheers Everybody for all the advice,im in 2 minds with weather to scrap my old faithfull as i can see me spending about £400 just on parts alone and thats if i can manage it on my back in the street which is not ideal.

Its a shame as its a good car and i fitted a new clutch myself a few years ago and done most jobs that needed doing.

the other failures were a track rod end and nearside parking brake inoperative ?other job is slight blow on exhaust backbox but didnt fail it.

think i need have a good think before i make a decision.

Cheers chaps

Rimmer's have a good guide here: https://rimmerbros.com/content--name...le-Information

But I'm not sure that all types are still available and prices for OEM are higher than other suppliers. Just before Christmas EuroCarParts had a sale on front springs (Anschler) I bought two pairs for our "fleet", think they were about £8 each! Now the price is £56. CarParts4Less (their cheaper sister company) are worth checking. Depends if you want original or accept aftermarket, don't really think it makes much difference as long as you fit in pairs. I went to the trouble a couple of years ago of buying Swedish Lesjöfors springs in the hope they'd last - one broke after two years (got a refund after a six month wait).
