Bonnet not shutting
The switch near the pedals was loose and didn’t open the bonnet straight away, then when I closed the bonnet it locked but isn’t returning to its natural position and is staying slightly up. When I locked the car it gave me a beep to let me know the bonnet wasn’t shut.
Anyone know what the problem is? My guess is the cable, but I’m not sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Adam2003; 5th February 2021 at 16:39.. |

Sounds like the 2 bonnet catches (with the halfmoon shapes inside) arent connecting properly. They can gum up over time, mine did this and I removed them and cleaned the gunge from inside and now lock properly. When mine were doing the same as yours, I would lightly tap next to each catch with a small hammer as well as a squirt of wd40 to get the internally cathes to move where ther should be. Good luck with yours.

As above, I slacken my bonnet catch bolts and let the mechanism 'float' a little.

Best thing to do as a lasting job, is remove the mechanism and take them to bits, easy enough, and clean then grease them up and place back in the slam panel. When replacing them, leave the bolts slightly loose, shut the bonnet, then gently open it and fully tighten the bolts. You will be amazed how nice the bonnet shuts. Makes for less strain on the cables as well. When you shut the bonnet, don’t drop or slam it shut. Place the palm of your hand on the crease in the bonnet, right at the front edge, and gently push it shut. It will not dent it.It is the strongest part of the bonnet.Makes me shudder when I see how some people shut the bonnet on their car. Letting it drop from on high. Do you have to keep replacing your headlight bulbs? That’s the reason. I think it tells you in the hand book to drop it from about six inches high.
