If your left hand steering wheel stalk has a button on the end, thats for displaying the dash readout for trip mileage, mpg, speed limit warning etc.

Your Connoisseur SE should have a message centre Peter?

However, fuel consumption displays can give a variety of readings depending upon when they're reset to zero. The most realistic method is a regular brim-to-brim calculation.

Simon this is not true on later mk2 cars a conny se was downgraded and lost the ipk, rear blind, cruise, cd changer and rain active wipers unless it had the extra option pack that included these items

Rolls Royce salesmen used to say that if you have to know what it does to the gallon you can't afford to run one!

Hello Peter, You can use the Trip Screen Diagnostic Routine, described here: https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=55585

If you've never run this before, it's like learning to ride a bike, it will take a little practice to get the hang of it. Once you've familiarized with the contents, you can get various live and accumulated data.

Refer to Sections 4 and 5 for fuel consumption. This is a BMW designed application, so it outputs litres and kiometers. If you prefer Old English and need Imperial figures (MPG) you'll have to convert the displayed data. I believe the Highline IPK does this for you (anyone know?).

It's a bit of a faff, but the results are as accurate as any other electronically available data, like using a Highline IPK, a-plug in OBD reader, digital apps, etc.

Note that the default settings will most likely give you a rather optimistic fuel consumption. However, if you want greater accuracy, you can adjust the maths so the display will be similar to your back of the envelope brim to brim figure. You have to run Brim-Brim calculations to get your true average, which will enable you to make adjustments (see below). Once adjusted stay with it. Don't ever press the Reset (Option 21) or everything will go back to square one. The way to change the 'factor' used in the algorithm is described in my later notes titled: More on the Section 20: Correction Factor for OBC Fuel Consumption Display.

Good luck.
TC

Used to have a V6 3 litre Omega. Could display fuel consumption either average or live. Put it on live and plant your right foot it would rocket down to very low single figures . . . . didn't have it on live very often!

The wife's 1.6 Mini has instant fuel consumption readout, planted throttle can see that into single figures as the revs rise.

I was thought to reset the trip every time I fill a car up, that way if it is less than usual you can see if there is any reason for it.
