Unhappy 1st breakdown

My 75 broke down for the first time today in 10 years of ownership. Called GEM who I have breakdown cover with and a local recovery company were with me within 1/2 hour, problem soon diagnosed as a sticky under bonnet pump, a few judicial taps with an engineer's spanner and we were up and running.

Nice to have someone turn up that had knowledge of our cars and a nice person too, also pleased with GEM Motoring Assist too.

While it is still in your mind, take the plug off the top of the ubp, and put some Vaseline, not grease, on the connections in the top of the pump, and push it on and off a few times.Rac chap told me what to do when mine let me down. Never had any trouble since. Changed the ubp about two years ago when it got noisy around 100,000 miles.

Thanks for the replies, had the in-tank pumps done about a year after I bought it by TS-Autos but ubp is probably the original at not far short of 170k, so can't complain too much.
New pump coming from DMGRS, not a Pierburg one tho' lol.

Sorry to hear about the breakdown. Once in 10 years and at 170K says a great deal about these cars and how you look after yours.

Thank your lucky stars she wasn't something "modern" with the computer says "NO" and a 4 figure bill .

Glad it's all been sorted. Nice to hear about a decent recovery firm too.

Catch up next week.
