Timing belt replacement
Hi,
I have a 2.5auto 2002 Rover 75 that's has just completed 77k miles. I am wondering if anyone would advise to change the timing belt? My 75 runs well and there are no issues with the engine that I can tell. I only do about 5k per year about town. Any advice would be grateful. Thanks. |

When did it have its last belt change (Date/mileage)?

I would get them changed because of the age. If I lived nearer to you, I could show you a set of timing belts off my 2.5 v6 that had covered around 80,000 miles and had been on 9 years. Get them changed ASAP.

This is the important question Jay and crucially, if they have been changed in the past, do you have evidence that the tensioner and idler pulleys were renewed at the same time? By doing the job myself I can tell you that these are the weak link (not the belts) and 77,000 miles is a good time to renew the lot, if they're the originals. The tell-tale sign of worn pulleys is a rattling sound immediately after a cold start which disappears after a minute or two. Simon
