A strange turn indicator problem
(Please pardon me if I use any incorrect terms for specific parts or functions, I'm neither car-savvy nor knowledgeable in English auto terminology)
The car involved is a Rover 75 2.0 V6 of year 2000. I bought it a little while ago, and normally I keep the headlights on during the day while I drive, so I did not notice the issue for a while. As expected, when the headlight switch is turned on; all turning indicators work normally. But when the light switch is turned back to 0, things take a strange turn: When a left turn signal is issued, only the front left turn signal flashes; the side turn signal and rear turn signal stay off. When a right turn signal is issued; the front right turn signal does not light up, but the side and rear ones do work. Currently, the car is in my hometown, which is a small border town that has no willing mechanics to tangle things even further. When the car comes to Istanbul, as Rover was never an affordable car brand in Turkey, there is a limited number (i.e. 4) of Rover mechanics, who may or may not be able to sort out the issue, and help will be much appreciated. So, please allow this be my first post among many to come, as I am quite positive that my lovely car will soon turn out to be a complete ripoff with many rabbit holes to go through. Still, I like it. If you are going to tackle this yourself, you need to get hold of a LSM (Light Switch module), any one will do to diagnose if the fault is within the module itself.
The module is far more than just a lighting switch, you do not need to be blinded with what is not important right now. Borrow or buy one, it does not matter if yours or the one you get has a fog light switch or not, do not pay a lot of money, because vehicle use is recorded and stored in the module, it may concern you if it displays different mileage etc, to your cars history, or it may be so close you may not be too bothered. Once you have tried another module, if your indicators work, you can go from there. If you have no option but to obtain one outside turkey, I deal with people there often, contact me though PM, I can send you one.

Have a look at this link from 2018 -could be water damage to the LSM or possibly a failing battery/alternator.

I don't think you need go search for a Rover mechanic, rather someone with knowledge of vehicle electrics. Good luck. |

I'm sorry for my late reply. I am, and already have been in contact with the Rover communities in Turkey, but we are spread far off... both in terms of geography and also in terms of models. There are not too many 75 owners, but a considerable amount of Honda-era Rover owners who take heartwarming pride in their cars. However, recently I have been able to join a group of 75 owners; who have been very helpful.
However, I was unable to contact them when I needed this fix. I got a new LSM from Bulgaria, which also happened to show the same exact fault; but luckily I found an auto electronics mechanic who had the exact same main IC that was for some reason taken out of an Audi A3 LSM if memory serves, and right after that my LSM came back to life, eventually to hint me at a number of broken bulbs; which have been serving gladly after replacement. After all this, an unexpected summer rain threw my car into a bad left indication spree that lasted for a day and resolved on its own, after which I thought I am being too late to change my sunroof drains; as there are not too many LSMs or chips that are available for being shorted due to water damage. At this stage, my lighting works flawlessly on a repaired LSM. |

One thing you should get (it's free to download) is TOAF, which is excellent for diagnosing faults on your Rover, including the airbag etc.
