Coparts 68 acre 'Supoer Centre'
Ey up! is the groundwork being readied for en mass ICE vehicle recycling? Copart are building a 68 acre Super Centre near Bury st Edmunds in east Anglia & quadrupling & doubling the size of some of their other sites across the country
"With an increasing number of severe weather events and an ever-changing car parc due to the rise of electric vehicles, this centre will provide further essential latent storage capacity in the region, adding to Copart’s existing network of Super Centres in the UK." https://atfpro.co.uk/copart-announces-s ... f-england/

Recycling electric vehicles is going to be big big money - there's a lot of value in part worn batteries that can be repurposed

Surely there are plenty of vacant places around without building on greenfield land

That's true BEV salvage is in huge demand from EV repair garages & the custom conversion people, These guys scour salvage yards here & abroad for the main traction packs to covert cars to electric & Cleevely ev services had a rack full of salvage battery packs from the Gen 1 Nissan Leaf to repair them, They remove individual cells that had gone bad from customers cars & replace them with good cells then rebalance the pack to get the full range back. Do Copart know something we don't? the scale of acreage expansion covering the whole country is enormous, Are they expecting a scrappage scheme to be implemented by the government or something Are the old RAF sites still full of dieselgate cars & there's no more room there The way the car industry is leaning to autonomous driving in the not too distant future those cars wont be supposedly crashing into one another with 5g V2X & filling up salvage yards, I wouldn't be surprised if a steering wheel is on the options list by the end of the decade.

I suspect that this may be on part of the old Sheperds Grove RAF base, lets hope they are careful when digging the holes!! Just in case
There's been some mean stuff stored there over the years. [B][I]Airfield built in 1943 for 8th Air Force (USAAF) but actually used by RAF No 3 Group of Bomber Command - essentially a Stirling bomber base during 2nd WW. Closed 1950. During the Cold War used as fighter base by USAAF from 1951-8. In 1957 nuclear store built and later, when planes had gone, airfield was used for Thor missiles (in 1959). Part of site now used as industrial estate. Last edited by Ian G; 19th November 2021 at 10:23.. |

We used to go to a great classic car show in the 80/90's at RAF Woodvale in Southport until they discovered what was just underneath the surface of the grass, Asbestos.Lots of it That show was cancelled forthwith & taken off the classic car calender.
