Hi Martin. Pretty sure I saw one on ebay yesterday & think it was 2 litre.

Hi all, thanks for the pointers. I have been watching on Ebay for a year now, and few come up. Am I missing something though? Most want serious money, I could buy a Rover V8 for less, albeit a tired one, but I don't want a V8! Even a K4 seems more realistically priced, maybe because there are more of them! I was told by one scrapyard that a 75 2.5V6 with snapped cambelt could be mine for £100 without or £250 with all ancillary items!
Is it because people keep buying them for the inlet plenums to sort their VIS issues, in which case, please let me have the engine as I woul dfit throttle bodies anyway.
Mind you, my other gripe with Ebay dealers is that they insist on calling the basic Zed seats leather or describing them as Recaros! They are definitely not and are vinyl, not leather. I bought some ZR seats and fitted them to my BGT, but I had to hunt for ages to get some at a reasonable price.

A KV6 with a snapped cambelt is as useful as a chocolate teapot because it needs an internal rebuild.

Exactly, Mike, hence £100 was a shock! I thought if it was only a tenner for scrap value it would suit my purposes to use it as a jig to get measurements and gearbox fit etc to ensure it would fit the BGT before spending on a decent engine!

I think that any good engines are still in big demand because they are still not in production (NAC where are you?). As you will know they are used in kit and other cars as they are seen as a sound base for adding extra 'bits'

As you can see we are keeping an eye out for you but I suspect you may have to pay more than you planned.

Thanks, Mike. I thought that kit cars might be the reason, I can imagine the Shelsey and GTM with a KV6 is quite something. After a 75 1.8 and now a ZT V6, I don't think I could go the K4 route in my BGT. The idea is to create a GT in the true sense with a torquey engine rather than a screamer, although I know someone that has just finished a BGT with VVC engine.

I shall persevere looking, the V6 is a worthy engine IMHO.

Has anyone experience of gearbox options that would fit? LT77 or R380? I am told the bolt pattern is the same as the K4 and hence assumed that a Caterham bell-housing to Ford Type 9 would work. Most kit car applications seem to be mid-engined rear drive so use the std gearbox as per FWD.

To be frank, I think you might be better off with a Rover V8 for your project. Given that literally millions of them have been made, they are cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain.

The KV6 on the other hand, while a great engine, was never made in the same quantities, so prices are higher and supplies are slim as so few cars used it, compared to the Rover V8 that was used in countless different models of car.

A decent, or even brand new V8 will be easier and cheaper to source than a 2.0 or 2.5 KV6.
