Default Bought a new lens..... my first zoom :-)

took the plunge today and bought a Nikon 55-200mm AF-S DX VR F4-5.6 Lens. I was going to buy the "ordinary" non VR lens, but microglobe were selling it at a reasonable amount, (£175 compared to Jessop's who wanted £249 for the same thing  ) It should be here tomorrow, and then I shall go and play with it.
I think the bug is biting, i want a speedlight flashgun and diffuser now as well... help..... my bank balance is going to suffer

Bank balances always take a battering when you enter the world of SLR's.

Think yourself lucky - £279 would be a bargain price for some of Canon's lenses.

Oh how I dream of owning an L-series lens.... :

I found the Bank Balance got hit ever since I bought my new Nikon D2Xs Professional Digital Camera which cost me just under £3000 (No Lens),
but never regretted it, to replace my old Nikon D2Hs.
Still wander around with a Fuji 10x optical zoom 8MP camera for snaps though.

It certainly is; I love mine. It is rather heavy to carry around, though!

Here's an example of what it can do...

What body do you have that mounted to?

i'll never buy anything from jessops again, they are a bunch of arseholes, they used to price match, i got a canon 10-22mm wide lens which they price matched, super lense for car meets and musuems. no wonder jessops is in trouble they are so expensive.

my humble little D40

brilliant little thing it has to be said (especially for a beginner like me)

just to compare the two lens I have.... (both pictures reduced in photo shop but not cropped)

this shot with the standard 18-55 lens that came with the camera from kitchen table (at full zoom).

and this one with the 55-200 VR lens from the same spot, also on full zoom.

I noticed the VR has an on off switch, I am going to have fun with this one

Not sure which Brian you were replying to there...

It was on a D2Xs, at the Photocall "preview" day for the recent Yeovilton Air Day.
