Used master cylinders appear to be available Ricky so your car can be repaired if you move it to someone who is prepared to fit just that.

But with reference to my earlier reply, are you absolutely certain that the master cylinder is responsible?

Hi All
Thanks for the feedback - I will certainly follow up with the contacts provided.
Update:
I collected car from the garage today. They filled the brake reservoir and gave it a long test drive - it hasn't lost fluid since AND I drove it the 30 miles back from garage - no loss of fluid??!
They have assured me that everything - bar the puzzle over the 'non brakes' & empty reservoir has been sorted - so car is in fine fettle to pass its MOT ....Just I'm worried why the brakes went soft and - upon reaching the garage no fluid was found in the reservoir but no leak could be traced. They went all over the vehicle - no trace of any leak. Head mechanic reasoned seals gone on Master Cylinder and fluid going into servo?? I have no idea. I just would have changed the whole unit if I could get hold of one, car is my pride & joy & no expense spared keeping it up to standard - but unreliable brakes certainly worry me!
