Any ideas?

Phew, that's a relief! I thought at first it was YOU making the creaking and groaning noises!

Do the noises happen only when turning the steering wheel or is it when the car is moving through a left or right turn? Is there any notchy feeling or clicking/pinging when turning the steering wheel?

Cheers,
Glenn

Turning the wheel when moving. Sounds as if something is grating.

I've been creaking for years and as for the groaning, well...............

Redfive had new genuine struts fitted in 2011 at 85k but of course it's done a lot of miles since and no doubt the lowered springs fitted at the same time will have taken their toll on the strut tops.
Cheers Ian

Bottom balljoint will do that - have a listen with someone else turning the wheel.

Or a slightly loose drive belt. If you have the aircon running and turn the wheel quite a way (manoeuvring) the belt can slip a little which causes a noise
