Default Waxoyling how many of you do it?

Good evening all how is everybody tonight, well got some time and will be sorting a few things out before I start going all over the place again.

Well today while I was in my mates garage working on my car ready for the MOT inspection 2moro, I saw a customers car going on the ramp, as it was slowly lifted I saw a pretty bad SIGHT!!!!!

Massive amount of corrosion and it was bad very bad, the sills were rotten to the core, surface rust everywhere, two areas were in danger of having holes in them.

it was a S-type Jag, I know my x-type was bad, but not as bad as that.
Even the owner was shocked how bad it was, I asked him the last time he's checked and he said never first time I've seen the underneath of it.

how long have you owned the car I asked him, since they first came out 16 years ago, well you better sort it out now before its scrap In a few years.

Showed him my car and he really liked it, thought I was mad, well he'd be right and showed him the wax oil and explained my own way what it does and how it works.

To be honest I want to do it for him, he likes his car, even give me a test drive in one, very nice I haver to say and pulls well, but in back of my mind I was driving RIVAL CAR to the 75.

75 rocks all the way, but the S-type is nice as well.

So chaps do you wax oil your own cars at all or do you pay too do it for you. ?

If we want to prolong our cars I say its well worth it, you don't want to end up like that S-type.

S types are notorious for rust.
There will be non left in 5 years.
Bit like the SD 1 !!

We spray ours underneath every MOT
Still on original arms and brake pipes.

Costs £10 a year in spray grease, Ruststop, Waxoyl engine oil............whatever you use is better than not applying anything

After today I know what people mean now when they say rust bucket, I was looking at one.

The x-type was bad, but I managed to wire brush and grind the surfaces rust off, pressed washed it and wax oiled it, also heated the tin to make it more runny making it easy to apply, using a thick brush and back breaking hours of applying it everywhere, also using cans to reach harder places.

Did the same with the 75 last year, its got three coats, checked it today while I was doing the hand brake adjustments and checks.

Still very solid and brake pipes are new all round and hoses too.
Gave them a good spray of white grease.

She's all ready for 2moro.

All my cars are done Dave, always have done them.
I usually put the rear of car on ramps then jack up front and place on axle stands. You can get quite good access, I use a paraffin gun to spay the Waxoyl and slightly thin it with white spirit. Leave the Waxoyl in front of a radiator for a while before you use it too

This is like what I use

How do you find it spraying it with a gun?

Every time I used it a few years ago it kept blocking up, could have been either the compressor was not delivering enough pressure and was maybe a bit worn out or the gun I used, its the same one as picture.

as you were spraying it blocked up and spent ,most of the time cleaning it and in the end ended up using the classic thick brush technique.

I have used one of these to apply waxoyl to my old Land Rovers in the past.

http://www.hozelock.com/our-products...ssure-sprayer/

This year I will be doing the same to the MG ZT-T.

I found this worked well as long as I kept the waxoyl warm - so I sat the bulb of the sprayer in a large bucket of hot water every 5 or 10 min or so.

It worked well.

The long nozzle enabled me to get the spray in all the nooks and crannies.

Just remember to peg out a large Tarpaulin to stop the waxoyl ruining your drive.

Yeah I've always done my cars, those paraffin guns block up if you dont thin it or warm it, I found the best gun was a schutz spray gun & an empty cleaned out schutz under seal can. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Underb...UAAOxy4YdTR-qp

Is there anything underneath that the waxoyl shouldn't come in contact with (aside from your brake discs) ?

Moving parts I wouldn't do as they tend to stick afterwards I did it before on a track rod end and noticed it was a bit of a job to turn it last year, got rid of it and sprayed white grease instead.

I always thin the Waxoyl with white spirit and warm it before spraying. You're right though Dave, they do block up but, less so when thinned. I keep wiping the end of the gun with a rag and white spirit as I go
