Smile Thanks - I Value Your Input

Even if it often isn't what I'm after.

I'll leave this running a couple more days, then pick 2 people who have responded and make them an offer.

1. Lots of journeys with the engine cold (drastic reduction in mpg)
2. My regular commute since I started a new job at the bottom of a very long hill. Driving up and down long hills all the time takes 3-4mpg off.

And yes, if I drive around on flat, empty roads, changing gear at 1500rpm and never exceeding 50mph, I can scrape 50mpg. I’ve tried it a couple of times just for a laugh – you have to drive as if you have no brakes, ie very very slowly, and lifting your foot about half a mile before you think you might have to stop.

How can I refuse.....but I had my MAF changed a few months ago, and during that period I experienced some low results, although most of them were still over 40mpg...MarinaBrian diagnosed my faulty MAF, and did an XPower upgrade at the same time.....Ive just altered the algorithm which supposedly equalises the OBD MPG and Brim to Brim MPG, but havent had the chance to fill up again since.

EDIT...Ive read the whole thread now, and realise my results may be no good, as I reset my OBD every time i fill up....I like to see what I am getting in real time, rather than a long term average....Although I could start again and not reset if required.

I would say most of my driving is local and engine never really gets a chance to heat up and my figures are comparable with others.. What the op said is true you can have two identical cars come off the line together and yet the performance can be worlds apart.

Default How few?

Very happy that I'm not driving one of the fuel guzzlers.
Won't say what I get, but I'd change the car if my overall was less than 50MPG.

Well I definitely wouldn't pay your travel expenses, even if it did 100 mpg!

Sorry - you're excluded.

Just had the clutch replaced on my cdti tourer. While it was done had the thermostat replaced too. The car has been running low temperature at about 70C and was never at half point on dial. Fuel consumption had dropped from approx 50 average (when thermostat was showing correct reading) to 42 max. Engine always sounded rough too at this low temperature.

I haven't had a chance to do a full mpg test yet but have noticed the electronic readout is definately higher then before thermostat change and engine seems smoother.

Will update mpg when i get a chance.
